“This is the new look of SPA-Casiguran annex building at Sitio Disigisaw,” said Fr. Joefran Talaban, parish priest of St. Anthony of Padua Parish that administers the Sentrong Paaralan ng mga Agta (Central School for the Agta). The school is supported by DKA, an Austrian Catholic Organization, providing the bulk of at least a budget 400,000 pesos (about $8,000). The operating budget, however, couldn’t squeeze funds for repairs and maintenance. The parish allocates a small food budget for the children’s meal at school, that has a total of 128 students.
Metro Infanta Foundation’s 25,000 pesos grant helped repair the dilapidated building. The 28 IP (Indigenous People) children now use what was once dilapidated building and now bursting with life. The school offers the IP children not only to receive education, but also to preserve their culture.
He also informed Metro Infanta Foundation that it takes the teachers who have masters degrees at least two hours to get to Sitio Disigisaw Monday morning and stay there until Friday. Truly a great sacrifice!
