Father Dave Capucao, CASPI (Catholic Association of Schools of the Prelature of Infanta) superintendent requested some financial support for their newest Catholic school, the St. Isidore Elementary School in Patnanungan, Quezon, Bishop Rolando Tria Tirona, OCD, then ordinary of the Prelature created the school.
The school is struggling to survive with only 61 students from K-6, that pay 4,000 (less than $100) pesos each per year. That means their income is only 244,000 pesos, if all paid. But, that is not the case.
Mr. Rey Villamor, school head, wrote that the tuition could not even cover the faculty of only four teachers receiving very bare salaries. They are truly making a great sacrifice because they could easily make double or triple their salaries in the public schools. Indeed, these teachers embody that teaching in Catholic schools is a vocation of love.
“It would be easier to close the schools” said Father Dave, “but that is an option the Prelature is willing to take. Consequently, the school relies on donations from interested individuals and organizations to keep the school open. Thus, the school started a fund campaign, “Iskolar ni Isidro,” that Mr. Villamor hopes will bring in 5,000 pesos ($100) sponsors to pay the tuition fees for their 61 students as well as some school supplies and books.
