The Gabaldon, in Infanta Central Elementary School, withstood the wrath of Typhoon Goni (Roly in the Philippines). One of its gazebos, however, could not stand the 195mph wind. The 9-year-old building is a replica of the original built in the early 1900 destroyed by a typhoon in the ‘70’s and remained in ruins for nearly 40 years.
Reports on fatalities nationwide are slowly coming in. The New York Post reports that at least 42 are dead snd 20 missing. But this November typhoon has definitely caused unprecedented destruction all over the country. Images on the aftermath of the Typhoon Goni from the provinces of Quezon, Maria Aurora, Cagayan, and the Metro Manila areas show people trapped on rooftops due to massive flooding, uprooted trees and plants, electric poles ready to fall, collapsed business buildings and homes, broken bridges and roads, stranded vehicles, churches and schools badly damaged, and many more casualties.
And the calamities may not be over yet ! There are further threats! The Magat Dam in the Cagayan Valley is not only ready-to-burst. Reports are floating around social media that 5 gates have already opened! Let us pray that God will prevent this from happening. Let us all get get on our knees to “pray without ceasing” as St. Paul has exhorted.
Cries for help can be seen all over the media, especially on Facebook. While we cannot help everyone, Metro Infanta Foundation will make an effort to help, just as it has done over the years. A $10,000 matching gift the Foundation receive recently should be a great incentive to this disaster relief campaign. Please consider making a gift, even a small gift, perhaps the cost of a hamburger, to this emergency fund.
