Puso sa Puso Edukasyon (Heart to Heart Education) can look forward to additional funding to serve the poor. To make this happen, Sister Frances Mangabat, SDS, is currently in Denver to speak at several parishes on a Mission Appeal.
What is Puso sa Puso Edukasyon?
Puso sa Puso Edukasyon is a project of the Sisters of the Divine Savior in Parola, Tondo, and in Payatas, Quezon City. Its mission is to provide education to underserved young people. They have been creative in making this possible. Thus, in Parola, a container tank attached to an old building serves as classroom. In Payatas, students attend classes in a previously unused building. Each center can handle up to 125 students. Most of their constituents come from dysfunctional or transitional families. Some are street kids.
In addition, the Sisters also support other projects for the poor. Their pastoral care for women includes ways to protect their children from abuse. In addition, they teach them skills to provide for their families. Proceeds from the sales of their Livelihood Project MalChiz go to selected indigent families.
Metro Infanta Foundation
Metro Infanta Foundation (MIF) helped secure a spot in the Cooperative Mission of the Archdiocese of Denver. As a result, Sr. Frances will speak at Cure d’Ars in Denver, St. Jude in Lakewood, and Queen of Peace in Aurora.
Moreover, MIF donated $5,000 to purchase a second container tank for Parola. “We are grateful,” says Sr. Frances, “to be able to serve more students.” Marilyn Bunag Ibanez, former MIF board member and regular donor, assured the administration of continued support.
Volunteers
Meanwhile, volunteers often visit to help. They provide medical and dental services. Others give lectures on various topics. Recently, parishioners from Mt. Carmel Shrine gave lectures on nutrition and hygiene.
