On behalf of Metro Infanta Foundation, Board Member Noemie Garcia Cam, presented, along with Bishop Bernardino Cortez a Plaque of Appreciation to Ms. Melecia Coronel Garcia for her long and dedicated service and generosity to carry out the mission of the Foundation. Fr. Francis B. Lucas, Chairman of the Board, and Mila Glodava, President, signed the Plaque of Appreciation. Fr. Mark Aaron Riomalos, parish priest of St. John the Baptist Parish, location of the presentation, read the copy on the plaque dated June 24, 2022.
Ms. Garcia served on the Foundation Board from inception in 1996 until 2021. Along with Ms. Thelma Coralde and other friends, Ms. Garcia initiated a tribute to the Father Dominic Scheerer, OCD, in celebration of his golden anniversary as a Carmelite in 1997. The event became a bigger celebration, however, as a golden anniversary of the Carmelite mission in the Philippines, honoring not only Fr. Dominic, but all the Carmelite missionaries to the Church in the Philippines. This special project turned out to be the incentive for many Infantahins to join the Foundation and support its mission.
Ms. Garcia also served as the Gabaldon Building Committee civil engineer, overseeing the project management of the construction of the Gabaldon, on behalf of Metro Infanta Foundation.
The Board of Directors of Metro Infanta Foundation is extremely grateful for the time, talent, and treasure Ms. Melecia Coronel Garcia has dedicated to the mission and goals of the Foundation.
In Ms. Garcia’s honor the Foundation made a thirty-five thousand pesos donation to St. John the Baptist Parish to finish a Marian Grotto on parish campus. FYI, the parish was also a recipient of a $10,000 donation collected by the St. Thomas More Parish children and youth “Pennies from Heaven” campaign to remodel the church between 1998 and 2003. Ms. Garcia regularly matched the collection throughout the campaigns. In addition, Fr. Aaron reminded us that the Foundation donated 65,000 pesos for some repairs of the church damaged by the multiple typhoons of 2018.
