I am proud of my son
By Mila Glodava
Today, June 16, Kevin, my son, is celebrating his 33rd birthday. It is indeed a joyous occasion for us, yet it is tempered by the fact that Kevin is away from home. Oh, he's been away from home before. When he went to college, he decided it's time to be on his own. Shortly after graduation, he went to Boston to find his place in the sun, or in the very cold Boston. Then he got married, started his own business in personal training and was pretty successful in his chosen field, giving him and his wife Trish the ability to purchase a home. Mark and I could not be any prouder of him thus far.
Then he decided to join the Naval Reserve, which sent him all over the country for school and training until he finished another degree (in criminal justice). Now he has to pay the piper, and volunteered to go to Iraq.

Kevin is shown in photo above with a general of a police station on the border of Iraq and Iran.
That's why celebrating his birthday is different today. In Iraq, my son is serving our country, defending our country, in the Navy as an intelligence analyst. I never thought I would ever say those words -- about my own son defending my adopted country. And I am proud.
Today, I join many other mothers whose children are making a sacrifice defending the United States. I am, indeed, proud of him, just like all the other mothers whose sons and daughters valiantly fight for their country. Yet it's not easy when the battleground sends news about fatalities and war damages. It's not easy to know that your son is in harms way. I, therefore, ask you to pray for my son and all those who serve the country. I also ask for prayers for their families to keep firm their support of their children.
It's also not easy to know that Kevin won't be around when his wife gives birth to their first son in August. Yes, Kevin and Trish will give us our very first grandson, and I know he, too, will be very proud.
<strong>Happy Birthday, Kevin!
