Voters Decide Today

Thousand of voters from over a hundred precints will decide today who will compose their new Sangguniang Bayan starting July 2007. Incumbent mayor Filipina Grace America and incumbent vice-mayor Minette Macasaet Dadios are the two choices for the new Infanta chief executive. Roehl Ram “RR” Velasco, son of ex-mayor RoldanVelasco is running against Casiano “Nonoy” Ungriano for vice and SB presiding officer. Eighteen other contenders are hoping to be one of the eight new councilor members. Ten of them will therefor face reality when they wake up tomorrow morning.
The Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting, PPCRV, and sanctioned by local Comelec, sponsored the traditional “Miting de Avance” last Saturday night. The covered court was packed by constituents from as far as Magsaysay and Dinahican barangays. All the candidates had their allotted time to reiterate their program of governance or “plataporma”. Written questions from the public were solicited. screened and directed to the candidate addressed. Overall, the “miting de advance” was very enlightening, orderly and civil.
Towards the end, all candidates were given the choice to sign a pact offered by PPCRV wherein a mechanism to meet and discuss their governance report every six months. The mechanism will have to be enacted during their inaugural session. The assessment report will focus on the three areas of governance, environment and poverty. These three areas evolved as the most common concern of the people during the voters education classes in all the barangays for the last several weeks. Out of the total twenty two (22) candidates, only three (3) did not affix their signatures.
On the provincial level, Suarez and Raffy Nantes are vying for governor while Kelly Portes and E. Rodriguez are for vice governor respectively. Other positions for grab are board members.
The son of incumbent governor, Mark Enverga is running against Llamas for congressman for the first district of Quezon.
Twelve slots are open for senatorial positions on the national level.
