A letter from Ambassador Arizala on MIF scholars

I am exceedingly glad to read the news item from the MIF Website of 26 August 2006 that your sister Melecia " completed the first Matching Grant of $2,500 from Cavan Corporation, Kansas City, Missouri, "and that Mr. Rory Reilly, president of Cavan Corporation, "actually increased his gift to $3,000, thus, the continuing support to scholarship grants to needy students, among them Mr. Frederick Rilli, the "first Arizala Diplomacy Scholar" at the Lyceum of the Philippines. It seems it was only yesterday when you announced to my great surprise the Arizala scholarship in diplomacy during the launching of the book "Labong ng Kawayan," at a Carmelite Center, Quezon City in 2002.

I am also happy to note that the first Arizala scholar, Mr. Frederick Rilli, will soon receive his M.A. in Foreign Service from the Lyceum and was offered by my Alma Mater (Lyceum) a teaching position. Right now, Mr. Frederick Rilli works at the Department of Foreign Affairs, Pasay City. May scholar Rilli“s "Impact Project" - a cooperative bank -(requirement for his scholarship), continue to perform well and further contribute to the welfare of the neighborhood in Barangay Rizal, Metro Manila.

Through you, may I extend my sincere thanks and congratulations to donors Ms. Melecia Garcia and Mr. Rory Reilly of Cavan Corporation, Kansas Ctiy as well as to other donors for their kindness. Congratulations also go to scholar Frederick Rilli for obtaining soon an M.A. in Diplomacy and for the success of his "Impact Project."

More power and best wishes.

Sincerely yours,

RUDY A. ARIZALA

P.S. I will write former Ambassador Dolores Sale who coordinated the scholarship with the Lyceum of the Philippines to advice scholar Frederick Rilli to take the Foreign Service Officer Examinations so that he may qualify for appointment as a career diplomat. RAA

Donors match first $2,500 Matching Grant

A gift of $150 from Melecia Garcia Aug. 4, 2006 completed the first Matching Grant of $2,500 from Cavan Corporation of Kansas City, Missouri. Rory Reilly, president, has supported the Foundation for several years, providing scholarship grants to needy students, and actually increased his gift to $3,000. Our sincere thanks to Mr. Reilly for such a generous gesture to our deserving scholars. Among Cavan's first scholars is Frederick Rili, who will receive his master's degree in foreign service soon from Lyceum University. Frederick Rily is also the first Arizala Diplomacy Scholar.

Amb. Dolores Benavides Sale, who coordinates the above scholarship, was very proud to inform us that Lyceum University has offered Frederick a teaching position at the university. Frederick just recently sent us a report on his Impact Project (a requirement for MIF scholars), a cooperative bank, which is going well and has proved beneficial to the neighborhood in Barangay Rizal.
