Hi! I'm Au V. Amurao and I'm looing for my cousin Mr. Jonjon Lozano. Please give my e-mail address to him -- aureliaamurao@yahoo.com. Thank you very much.
Response: We are still working with the Infanta officials, but waiting for the resolution of the propertyon which the school sits. If you can help raise the funds, that would be great. I hope to raise $200,000, which is a goal that we could easily attain if all Infantahins will give hand. We have already nearly $50,000 in pledges. Thanks for asking.

I am presently preparing for my upcoming tests in a course where I am currently enrolled in when my attention was caught by Amb. Arizala's latest piece on Christmas. His article has evoked memories about my own Christmas experiences as a boy in Infanta - recollections so strong and fond that I had to break my self-imposed rule of not letting anything aside from my normal home or office chores to get in the way of my current preparations.
I have always looked back to that period in my young life with such cherished thoughts to say that they have been one of,if not the happiest moments in my life. And this is despite the fact that unlike most of the other children then, I was never sure to have new clothes or pair of shoes to wear on the Big Day because our family was really hard-up to afford them.
On this and to veer from my topic a little bit, I used to wonder that despite their very meager income, our parents had always managed to buy us new wears for the Yuletide season. For one thing, maybe this was because like any other parents it was their joy to see us happy during Christmas. Another reason was that at the very least, they did not cherish the prospect of seeing us left out while other kids were basking in their new attires. I only realized later how many months Nanay would have to bleed through just to be able to pay the 'hulugang damit' which I and my other sibling had worn!
I am never embarassed to admit that I grew up without having seen, least of all tried, a real hamon or experienced a sumptuous meal of Noche Buena after attending the Misa de Gallo. Sta Claus was fiction to me because I did not remember receiving even a single gift coming from him. Or maybe it was because we did not have a chimney for him to sneak his gifts through in the first place.
Yet despite the things we lacked or did not have then, I would not say now that those days were not as happy or memorable as those of the other kids who grew up with me. On the contrary, I maintain that they may be the best Christmases that I ever had. For the simple reasons that as a child, I saw this time as one when better off parents would let their own children share toys with less fortunate kids like us. It was also a time when even the normally condescending neighbor would transform into a most gracious host to poor kids in the neighborhood. But best of all, the thrills of my early Christmases came when I and my youngest sister would hop from house to house and kneel before the owners in order to earn that much desired 'cinco or diez' na papasko.
To a child especially, the joy that Christmas brings is that which comes from within. Certain ciccumstances may have changed in my life that have placed my two young children a lot better off than where I had been as a child. All their lives, they have known Santa Claus and always looked forward to receiving their gifts from him. Despite these, I have always nursed this secret wish that my children will also experience the joys of my childhood Christmases in Infanta - which until now to me have been the truest and purest.

Greetings from Thailand!
I tried sending email at editor@infanta.org but your box is full.
I remember my sister Anne who live in Paris send me this site couple of months ago but I really didn't have a chance to browse until today -- my birthday and nothing much to do at home. I noticed that my sister, bro-in-law Freddy as well as my relatives in USA are all registered in this site so might as well register too and hopefully, get in touch with the rest of the kababayans.
I am the son of the late Eding and Alice Magallanes. Brother of Len (married to Freddy), Dan and Anne (married to Bernard). I have been living here in Bangkok, Thailand for 10 years already.
On another note, for those of you who remember my father, there's this article that was written by my uncle Dr. Jose Pujalte and was published in Phil. Star that I'd like to share to everyone. You can visit my blog www.erascolorsoflife.blogspot.com
Note: To the Editor: You can also publish it in your main site to make sure that everyone who knows my father will remember how great he is.
This is truly a great site and now I am reading every post.
Thank you very much,
Eras Magallanes

Editor's reply: I don't know the answer to your question. I will forward it to Amb. Arizala who might know the answer. Thanks for your visit.
Amb. Arizala replies: Dr. Alfon Meraña and Dr. Alfonso Meraña are one and the same person. We used
to call him by his nickname "Alfon" instead of "Alfonso". When he first came to Manila to study, we were together at the apartment of my auntie Nana Pia Recio and Tata Felix Recio, the parents of my cousin Dr. Rolando G.
Recio.

Hello! Ang ganda ng website ng Infanta..
Posted by:

I was reading this web,and I saw Shella Crisostomo Barcena's note. Then I remember her husband Danny Barcena, who was the first one who heared the news from DZBB internet radio, about what was happening in Infanta during the exact time of flash flood. He was in his office in Toronto, Canada. For some reason, while he was working he used to put his head phone, to listen about Philippines news. Then he heard that news about the guy in Infanta who manage to call in his cell to the radio station while in their house roof, and say " Please help us the whole town is drowning with water and mud with almost 10 feet high". At that very moment Danny started calling one by one some of the Infantanians here in Canada and in States. And He also called me and says "Hey Bro. something really bad is hapenning in our place". I just ignored him, thinking that it will never gonna happen there especially 10 feet high water, are you crazy and sick (in my mind). But the following day it was all over the news, tv,radio, & news paper.
I guess it's about time to thank you Danny and also I would like to say sorry for ignoring you that day. Any way keep listening to the radio and feed us some news if you hear something again about ours. But please this time make it good news, you almost give me heart attack, he! he! he!. But Again thank you.

May I suggest that more detailed information be published or at least give the readers the websites where they will get more info. I think the Infantahins need to know the technical aspect of the project, the impact to the environment and most important, the impact of the dam to the present and future residents. More knowledge about the project will help in planning the course of action and maybe will also help in trying to convince the decision makers to help their constituents.

Mila,
I found this email sent to me interesting, humorous and somewhat true.
Read this to forget your problems....
If Noah Were A Filipino....
It is the year 2005 and Noah lives in the PHILIPPINES.
The Lord speaks to Noah and says: "In one year I am going to make it rain and cover the whole earth with water until all is destroyed. But I want you to save the righteous people and two of every kind of living thing on the earth.
Therefore, I am commanding you to build an Ark." In a flash of lightning, God delivered the specifications for an Ark. Fearful and trembling, Noah took the plans and agreed to build the Ark."Remember," said the Lord, "You must complete the Ark and bring everything aboard in one year." Exactly one year later, a fierce storm cloud covered the earth and all the seas of the earth went into tumult. The Lord saw Noah sitting in his front yard weeping. "Noah." He shouted, "Where is the Ark?" "Lord please forgive me!" cried Noah. "I did my best but there were big problems.
First, I had to get a Mayor's permit for construction and your plans "did not comply with the codes". Had to hire their "engineering firm" and "redraw" the plans. Then I got into a fight with Municipal Fire Safety Inspector over whether or not the Ark needed a fire sprinkler system and extinguishers. Then my neighbor objected, claiming I was violating zoning ordinances by building the Ark in my front yard, so I had to get a permit from the municipal planning office. I had problems getting enough wood for the Ark, because there was a ban on cutting trees to protect the Monkey-Eating Eagle. I finally convinced the DENR that I needed the wood to save the eagles. However, the DENR won't let me catch any eagles. So, no eagles.
The carpenters formed a union and went out on strike. I had to negotiate a settlement with the KMU. Now I have 16 carpenters on the Ark , but still no eagles. When I started rounding up the other animals, I got sued by an animal rights group. They objected to me only taking two of each kind aboard. Just when I got the suit dismissed, the DENR again notified me that I could not complete the Ark without filing an environmental impact assessment on your proposed flood. They didn't take very kindly to the idea that they had no jurisdiction over the conduct of the Creator of the universe. Then the DPWH demanded a map of the proposed new flood plan. I sent them a globe.
Right now, I am trying to resolve a complaint filed with the DOLE that I am practicing discrimination by
not taking godless, unbelieving people aboard! The BIR has seized all my assets, claiming that I'm building the Ark in preparation to flee the country to avoid paying taxes. I just got a notice from the BIR that I owe some kind of user tax and failed to register the Ark as a recreational water craft." The NBI and ISAFP each wanted a piece of the action alleging that the Ark would be used by the Magdalo soldiers to escape. The PNP on the other hand insists that Misuari might use the Ark to flee to Indonesia. Malacanang sees the opportunity to use the Ark for GMA's Strong Republic Nautical Highway presidential campaign sorties.
Finally the Senate got the courts to issue a TRO against further construction of the Ark, saying that since God is flooding the earth, it is a religious event and therefore unconstitutional. This is a forwarded email that I received. I think the message of this email is worth reading.
Subject: love the philippines .. by a korean
*Please pass it to all Filipinos you know. *
The message goes:
As you know, we have plenty of Koreans currently studying in the Philippines to take advantage of our cheaper tuition fees and learn English at the same time.
This is an essay written by a Korean student i want to share with you. (*Never mind the grammar; *
*it's the CONTENT that counts*) Maybe it is timely to think about this in the midst of all the confusion
at present.
*MY SHORT ESSAY ABOUT THE PHILIPPINES*
Jaeyoun Kim
Filipinos always complain about the corruption in the Philippines . Do you really think the corruption is the
problem of the Philippines ? I do not think so. I strongly believe that the problem is the lack of love for the Philippines .
Let me first talk about my country, Korea . It might help you understand my point. After the Korean War, South Korea
was one of the poorest countries in the world. Koreans had to start from scratch because entire country was destroyed after the Korean War, and we had no natural resources.
Koreans used to talk about the Philippines , for Filipinos were very rich in Asia . We envy Filipinos. Koreans really
wanted to be well off like Filipinos. Many Koreans died of famine. My father & brother also died because of famine.
Korean government was very corrupt and is still very corrupt beyond your imagination, but Korea was able to develop dramatically because Koreans really did their best for the common good with their heart burning with patriotism.
Koreans did not work just for themselves but also for their neighborhood and country. Education inspired young men with the spirit of patriotism.
40 years ago, President Park took over the government to reform Korea . He tried to borrow money from other countries, but it was not possible to get a loan and attract a foreign investment because the economic situation of South Korea was so bad. Korea had only three factories. So, President Park sent many mine workers and nurses to Germany so that they could send money to Korea to build a factory. They had to go through horrible experience.
In 1964, President Park visited Germany to borrow money. Hundred of Koreans in Germany came to the airport to welcome him and cried there as they saw the President Park . They asked to him, "President, when can we be well off?" That was the only question everyone asked to him. President Park cried with them and promised them that Korea would be well off if everyone works hard for Korea , and the President of Germany got the strong impression on them and lent money to Korea . So, President Park was able to build many factories in Korea . He always asked Koreans to love their
country from their heart.
Many Korean scientists and engineers in the USA came back to Korea to help developing country because they wanted their country to be well off. Though they received very small salary, they did their best for Korea . They always hoped that their children would live in well off country.
My parents always brought me to the places where poor and physically handicapped people live. They wanted me to
understand their life and help them. I also worked for Catholic Church when I was in the army. The only thing I learned from Catholic Church was that we have to love our neighborhood. And, I have loved my neighborhood. Have you cried for the Philippines ? I have cried for my country several times. I also cried for the Philippines because of so many poor people.
I have been to the New Bilibid prison. What made me sad in the prison were the prisoners who do not have any love for their country. They go to mass and work for Church. They pray everyday.
However, they do not love the Philippines. I talked to two prisoners at the maximum-security compound, and both of them said that they would leave the Philippines right after they are released from the prison. They said that they would start a new life in other countries and never come back to the Philippines .
Many Koreans have a great love for Korea so that we were able to share our wealth with our neighborhood. The owners of factory and company were distributed their profit to their employees fairly so that employees could buy what they needed and saved money for the future and their children.
When I was in Korea , I had a very strong faith and wanted to be a priest. However, when I came to the Philippines , I completely lost my faith. I was very confused when I saw many unbelievable situations in the Philippines . Street kids always make me sad, and I see them everyday. The Philippines is the only Catholic country in Asia , but there are too many poor people here. People go to church every Sunday to pray, but nothing has been changed.
My parents came to the Philippines last week and saw this situation. They told me that Korea was much poorer than the present Philippines when they were young. They are so sorry that there are so many beggars and street kids. When we went to Pagsanhan, I forced my parents to take a boat because it would be fun. However, they were not happy after taking a boat.
They said that they would not take the boat again because they were sympathized the boatmen, for the boatmen were very poor and had a small frame. Most of people just took a boat and enjoyed it. But, my parents did not enjoy it because of love for them.
My mother who has been working for Catholic Church since I was very young told me that if we just go to mass without changing ourselves, we are not Catholic indeed. Faith should come with action. She added that I have to love Filipinos and do good things for them because all of us are same and have received a great love from God. I want Filipinos to love their neighborhood and country as much as they love God so that the Philippines will be well off.
I am sure that love is the keyword, which Filipinos should remember. We cannot change the sinful structure at once. It should start from person. Love must start in everybody, in a s mall scale and have to grow. A lot of things happen if we open up to love.
Let's put away our prejudices and look at our worries with our new eyes.
I discover that every person is worthy to be loved. Trust in love, because it makes changes possible. Love changes you and me. It changes people, contexts and relationships. It changes the world. Please love your neighborhood and country.
Jesus Christ said that whatever we do to others we do to Him. In the Philippines , there is God for people who are abused and abandoned. There is God who is crying for love. If you have a child, teach them how to love the Philippines . Teach them why they have to love their neighborhood and country. You already know that God also will be very happy if you love others.
That's all I really want to ask you Filipinos.
*(FOR THE LOVE OF OUR COUNTRY PLEASE PASS THIS MESSAGE)*

Hi,
I met you when I was in high school, Mt. Carmel Polillo, Quezon before you transferred to Infanta.
I find the bamboo in your logo as truly significant and symbolic. It conveys the idea of sturdiness yet fluid characteristics of a caring person.
Response: Hi Ofelia. Thanks for visiting. I remember you and your family very well. I considered you my "cousins" in Polillo, and you all made me feel at home there. Please say hi to your sisters. Are you still in New York? Please keep in touch.

Dear Dan, Tony and all,
Salamat po Mr Dan for the erratum, napagsama ko po kasi iyong former employee rin ng ACEC na si Mr. Luis de Vera, heheh. To you po Mr. Tony, si Boeing Sta. Nasa HR Dept. po ako noong bumisita kayo ng ACEC two years ago. Iyon po ang time ng transition until hinugot ako ni Mr. Mike Snape to work in the operations (engineering). Vench

This is personal greetings po sa Resplandor family lalo na kay Doc Joe na hindi na nagpaparamdam. Now, narito ako sa Al-Khafji (sa pagitan ng KSA at Kuwait) kung saan ang ACEC (my company) ay ina-assign ako for special project documentation. until when? Pansaman'tagal' ata ang assignment ko. Btw, you may send messages kung gusto mo ng magparamdam, dahil baka puede na tayong magkita sa bakasyon ko ng March-April (in time of my daughter's graduation). You can still use my vench.gucon@acec-sa.com or rito sa new assignment ko GuconVM@kjo.com.sa. For now at medyo pasensiya na po Ma'am Mila sa space para sa personal greetings ko. Salamat po.

Pagbati po from Al-Khobar,
Vench and family.

My cousin, Linda Cayco-Ramirez gave me this website to read a tribute to Dr. Amando Gurango who was my Uncle on my father's side (the late Amb. Pedro G. Ramirez). Suddenly, I have discovered long lost relatives through your website. I was fortunate to have visited Infanta, Quezon, in 1963 when our father brought us to the homeland while we were living in Tokyo, Japan, where my father was assigned as Deputy Chief of Mission at the PHilippine Embassy. I have many fond memories of my Uncle Amando Gurango.
This website really brings one closer to the "fatherland".
Norma Ramirez
RESPONSE: Yes, I know Linda and her late husband, Tomas (Tommy to many). They were very big supporters of Metro Infanta Foundation.

I thought earlier that you might have a similar set up and perhaps with the cooperation of others, more Infantahins will benefit from MIF. There is also a possibility that MIF might link up with a bigger and well established foundation in your homebase as in occf. Pardon for my unsolicited idea.

Thanks for the reply. I was just curious about the endowment funds and would probably support one if MIF has it. I think more people will donate and are more generous to endowment funds. It is a more stable and lasting fund for the organization.
Response: According to my inquiries, an endowment fund requires anywhere from $25,000 to $50,000 to start one. If you want to start one, I'll be happy to work with you on that. I would like to know who you are. That's why we have resorted in doing scholarships that donors can sponsor. But even these, our kababayans who respond are very few and far between. Without the foundations and corporations that assist us, we won't have the number of scholarships that we have right now.

Kababayan | August 29, 2006 09:47 AM
Are there Scholasrhip endowment funds being managed by the MIF? If there is none, is it possible to start one? Who would be the best resource person to contact about the endowment funds?
Response: We have no endowment funds, but we have a number of scholarships sponsored by various people or agencies. If you are interested in starting one, please send give your name, address and phone number to editor@infanta.org. We'll be happy to discuss starting one with you.

Dr. Merana, you are in our thoughts and prayers.

Ms Webmaster, is DR. ALFON MERANA as mentioned by Mr. Arizala the same person I was looking for a long time? I know DR. ALFONSO MERANA, not sure about Dr. Alfon Merana.

Posted by: Rey | August 5, 2007 09:57 PM

I really don't think I can finish the Ark for another 10 or 16 years!". Noah wailed. The sky began to clear, the sun began to shine and the seas began to calm. A rainbow arched across the sky. Noah looked up hopefully. "You mean you are not going to destroy the earth, Lord?"
"No," said the Lord sadly...."The government is already doing that!!!

Hi,
I met you when I was in high school, Mt.

Vench

I've read Mr.Vench Gucon's message posted on 05Feb.I guess he was referring to Tony Vera Cruz's story, not Tony de Vera.Iyon lang po at salamat.

This is personal greetings po sa Resplandor family lalo na kay Doc Joe na hindi na nagpaparamdam. Now, narito ako sa Al-Khafji (sa pagitan ng KSA at Kuwait) kung saan ang ACEC (my company) ay ina-assign ako for special project documentation. until when? Pansaman'tagal' ata ang assignment ko. Btw, you may send messages kung gusto mo ng magparamdam, dahil baka puede na tayong magkita sa bakasyon ko ng March-April (in time of my daughter's graduation). You can still use my vench.gucon@acec-sa.com or rito sa new assignment ko GuconVM@kjo.com.sa. For now at medyo pasensiya na po Ma'am Mila sa space para sa personal greetings ko. Salamat po.

Pagbati po from Al-Khobar,
Vench and family.

I was reading a local newspaper when I noticed an article regarding our sampaguita blooming in Colorado.I'm so glad to find out that there's a website for INFANTAHINS. Now I will be able to greet my relatives whom I haven't seen for years especially to Tita Norma Ramirez ,who is my father's first cousin on her father's side the late Ambassador Pedro Ramirez whom we fondly called Lolo Pindo. I also want to say hi to my bayaw Ulysses Penamante and his wonderful wife Lilibeth. Kumusta rin kay kuya Benjie Escolano; I hope you're doing well. Hope to hear from my good friend Alfredo Orquia Jr. I'll appreciate if you have his e-mail address. Thanks for the opportunity and more power to the Foundation.

Response: Sorry we don't have either of them listed on our website. Let's hope someone will recognize them and give us some info for you. Thanks for visiting. Editor

Thanks for the visit. We hope you will tell other kababayans about it so they will feel connected, even through the website. Thanks again, and please visit us again.

A note for Dr. Erano Ravago from Benjie Escolano. Hi, there Doc, this is the brother of Jose Escolano. I hope by now you've learned that he already passed in December of last year after a lingering heart ailment. I need to connect with you regarding an important matter. Can you please respond to this e-mail or call me 707-704-1166. I'm in Northern California.
Hope to hear from you,
Benjie
Thanks Metro Infanta Foundation for this wonderful site.

Found this in the web...
http://occf.org/occf/index.php
I thought earlier that you might have a similar set up and perhaps with the cooperation of others, more Infantahins will benefit from MIF. There is also a possibility that MIF might link up with a bigger and well established foundation in your homebase as in occf. Pardon for my unsolicited idea.
Posted by: Kababayan | August 31, 2006 02:34 PM
Posted by: Kababayan | August 29, 2006 09:47 AM
Are there Scholasrhip endowment funds being managed by the MIF? If there is none, is it possible to start one? Who would be the best resource person to contact about the endowment funds?
Response: We have no endowment funds, but we have a number of scholarships sponsored by various people or agencies. If you are interested in starting one, please send give your name, address and phone number to editor@infanta.org. We'll be happy to discuss starting one with you.
